About Htet MyEt

Htet Myet, born and raised in Yangon, Myanmar, is currently studying at Yale-NUS College in Singapore under ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship. His prospective major is global affairs with minor in economics. An enthusiast in politics, economics, and international relations, his interest lies in state-society relations,  socio-political institutions, and international security. A proud Myanmar national, he is greatly confident in the country’s potentials and keen on helping build a safe and stable society with a sound economy in Myanmar and for the wider Southeast Asia region in general.

Before coming to Yale-NUS College, Htet Myet studied at Practising High School, Yangon University of Education, also known as TTC, one of the most prestigious public high schools in Myanmar. A government high school scholar, he passed the national matriculation exam with fourth position in the entire country in 2018. He was also one of 178 all-around outstanding students or Luyeechuns selected by Myanmar’s Ministry of Education from all fourteen states and regions of the country every year. Htet Myet is the first to be selected as a Luyeechun for three consecutive years (2016-2017-2018) in his school and one of the few in Myanmar who was a three-time Luyeechun and at the same time made into the country’s top-ten list in the matriculation exam.

Recently, Htet Myet interned at ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute (formerly Institute of Southeast Asian Studies), a Singapore-based think-tank on ASEAN’s socio-political, security, and economic issues. There, he co-authored three articles on Myanmar’s new military regime or the State Administration Council (SAC). He also interned at Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (MISIS), a foreign policy think-tank working in tandem with Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2019.

Htet Myet is currently serving as the President of Myanmar Community at NUS where he spearheads the 15-member Management Committee which plans and executes networking and social gathering events, welfare initiatives, and Myanmar cultural sharing not only in NUS but also in the wider Singapore.  He is also the interim Chief Justice of the Yale-NUS Student Judiciary where he oversees elections processes and monitors the Student Government restructuring at present.
